• You may begin to notice the effects of your wrinkle relaxing treatment within 2 to 7 days, but please keep in mind that full results will take 14 days.
• Results can vary from person to person and are influenced by the dosage used. For example, individuals with stronger facial muscles—such as men or those with more pronounced lines—may require a higher initial dose to achieve optimal results compared to someone with finer lines. Everyone's anatomy is unique, and treatment is tailored accordingly.
• This treatment specifically targets dynamic lines—the lines that appear when facial muscles are active (e.g., smiling or frowning). It does not improve static lines, which are the lines visible even when the face is at rest.
• The goal of the treatment is to reduce movement in targeted areas, resulting in smoother-looking skin and diminished appearance of wrinkles. Outcomes will differ depending on factors like your skin condition, muscle strength, facial expression habits, and the amount of product used. These aspects will be evaluated during your consultation to customise your treatment plan.
• Wrinkle relaxing treatments are not permanent. Muscle activity—and the associated facial lines—typically begin to return to full movement within 2 to 4 months. Please note, the forehead usually wears off the quickest, sometimes with full movement returning 8 weeks post-treatment.
• It's important to first consult with your dentist to assess your teeth and jaw function. If your dentist advises against muscle-relaxing treatment, it is not recommended to proceed with it independently.
• This treatment typically targets the masseter muscle (located at the jaw), and in some cases, the temporalis muscle (located at the temples), depending on your specific concerns.
• You can expect to begin noticing the effects of the treatment approximately two weeks after the procedure. As the treated muscles gradually weaken, visible slimming of the jaw area usually occurs over the following 6 to 8 weeks. This change can lead to a more contoured facial appearance, particularly around the sides of the jaw.
• In addition to aesthetic benefits, many patients experience relief from symptoms such as jaw clenching, teeth grinding (bruxism), TMJ discomfort, tension headaches, and related concerns.
• In some cases, patients may notice a secondary effect where the slimming of the jaw makes the skin around the lower face feel slightly looser or gives the appearance of more prominent jowls. While this is less common, it can be discussed in detail during your consultation.
• Results will vary from person to person and depend on the strength and size of the muscles being treated. Those with larger or more active jaw muscles may require a higher initial dose and potentially additional treatments to maintain results.
• This treatment is temporary. Muscle strength and function typically begin to return between 3 to 6 months after treatment.
Common side effects may include:
• Mild discomfort during the injection process
• Temporary headaches
• Minor bruising/small, red needle marks at the injection sites
Less common side effects can include:
• Mild asymmetry or unevenness in results
• A feeling of heaviness or a visibly heavy appearance of one or both eyebrows
• A temporary drooping of the eyelid, known as ptosis (occurs in less than 1% of cases)
• Smile asymmetry, which can occasionally occur with treatments involving the chin area and/or masseters
• When volumising treatments are performed, an immediate result is usually seen. This produces an initial aesthetic result but some temporary swelling will also be present. The final outcome will therefore evolve over 2-4 weeks as the volumising product settles in and the swelling resolves. This is when the treatment will look the most 'natural'.
• The results will vary from person to person depending on their starting point and their initial degree of volume loss, skin laxity, sun damage, biological age and so on. Depending on your goals, the suggested volumes of product used in your treatment will often be a conservative estimate of the volume required to achieve a minimal result. More product can be added in the future should it be required and this will be at an additional cost.
• How long the results last will be different in every patient. One way of knowing is to review your before and after photos to track your progress. On average, the results of thicker or more volumising products will last 12-18 months depending on the facial area, volume used and your desired outcome.
Common and Expected Effects:
• Mild discomfort during the injection process is normal.
• You may notice lumps, firmness, or uneven texture under the skin for 2–4 weeks post-treatment. This is usually due to the volumising product combined with temporary swelling, both of which gradually settle.
• Swelling is expected in the treated area. For example, the lips often swell noticeably for 3–7 days, even with small amounts of product. Swelling can also appear asymmetrical during this period.
• Bruising at injection sites is possible. While larger or more obvious bruises are uncommon, they cannot be fully prevented. If facial bruising is a concern socially or professionally, you may wish to carefully consider whether this treatment is right for you.
Less Common Side Effects:
• Infections or abscesses may occur and require medical attention, such as long-term antibiotics. In rare cases, surgical drainage may be necessary, which carries a risk of permanent scarring.
• Delayed-onset nodules are temporary swellings that may appear months or even years after treatment with a volumising product, often triggered by unrelated illnesses (e.g. flu, dental infections, UTIs). These usually resolve once the illness passes, but persistent cases may require treatment such as steroids, product dissolving, or referral to a specialist dermatologist for advanced care.
• Granulomas are rare, chronic, firm lumps that can only be diagnosed via biopsy. Treatment may include ultrasound-guided dissolving, steroid injections, or dermatologist referral for long-term management.
Very Rare but Serious Risks:
• Vascular occlusion and possible skin necrosis: This occurs when the volumising product blocks a blood vessel. Urgent treatment with dissolving agents is required to prevent permanent skin damage.
• Blindness: An extremely rare complication (estimated at 1 in 250,000 or less) that may occur if product enters the vessels supplying the eye. Emergency dissolving treatment will be given, with referral to an oculoplastic surgeon and transfer to Sydney Eye Hospital arranged as quickly as possible.
• Stroke: Even rarer, this could occur if the product enters the brain's circulation. Emergency care at a tertiary hospital would be required.
•If you're feeling unwell (e.g. cold, flu, sinus infection, UTI, allergies) please delay your treatment by at least 2 weeks. If you are taking antibiotics, please wait 4+ weeks depending on the severity—contact us if unsure.
•Being unwell increases the risk of complications such as infection, swelling, or lumps.
•Dental or surgical procedures (e.g. fillings, crowns, implants, biopsies, general anaesthetic) should be done at least 2 weeks before your filler appointment, once you're fully healed.
These precautions help reduce the risk of bacteria entering the bloodstream and causing serious issues.
•If you're unwell or have had a recent procedure, please contact us to reschedule—we’re happy to help.
